Honoring our Veterans

The more than 17,000 workforce members who make up the Texas Children’s system are by-far, the greatest thing about our organization. We have a beautifully diverse group of individuals who work together seamlessly to make miracles happen for patients each and every day. All of us have had different life experiences and upbringings, and it’s the unique history we each have that makes Texas Children’s so special.

Today, I want to take a moment to honor the men and women of our workforce who have transitioned from serving our country to serving our patients, our patient families and each other.

I am unbelievably proud that we have hundreds of veterans working throughout the Texas Children’s system, and I consider it an honor and a great privilege that these distinguished men and women have chosen Texas Children’s as their place of work after their Call of Duty.

Among the many lessons learned while in the military, the power of serving others is ingrained in a soldier from day one. When you encounter a veteran, one of their biggest strengths is almost always servant leadership.

All of you know I firmly believe that leadership applies to everyone – and this rings true with every veteran I’ve had the pleasure of meeting at Texas Children’s. No matter what area of the hospital they serve, I know that I can depend on tireless and dedicated leadership from the men and women who once put everything on the line to protect our freedoms.

This Veterans Day, I ask that you join me in thanking a soldier for all they’ve done, and all they continue to do. The freedoms we often take for granted are because of these brave men and women who, in many ways, will always be soldiers.

To all Texas Children’s veterans, thank you for bringing your dedication, resilience and commitment to your respective roles at Texas Children’s. Thank you for the history you carry with you every day that makes you who you are. Thank you for your unwavering leadership and, most of all, thank you for your service. Your Texas Children’s family salutes you.

Thank you for acknowledging our services and what we bring to this Organization. It means a lot from the bottom of my heart that we are not just another number but are valued and appreciated for what we do now and all of the sacrifices that We have made before joining this family. Thank you, Veteran; it hurts when people are so dismissive of our gifts and the lonely nights and the pain our family also goes through with us. It hurts when our leadership says thank you for our service when they hire us but then dismiss it all together after getting what they want out of us. All those Values and Leadership that took pain and honor to receive with our service. Thank you for not forgetting that you have us in your team to serve these families and each other.

Thank you for this wonderful tribute to our veterans. On this special day, Veteran’s Day, I would also like to thank those in our Texas Children’s community who have served or supported someone in this important role. Thanks to our soldiers and to those who have supported them… We thank you for your service and commitment to protect our freedoms and preserve the American spirit. A salute from the Department of Pediatrics…

Thank You Sir! It was a pleasure to serve our country for 13 years in the marine Corps and given a younger more fit body, and the opportunity I would gladly do it again. Since I will not get any younger, I will continue to serve TCH as long as I can, as it is our mission and dedication to serving our patients, families and staff that has made working for TCH so rewarding for me. I cherish the years I have served TCH as dearly as I cherish my service in the Marine Corps. The Marine Corps motto, Semper Fidelis, “Always Faithful”, applies to the TCH mission and can be seen day in and day out.

    Mr. Wallace,
As a mother to a war veteran of “Operation Iraqi Freedom”, I would like to say “Thank You” for acknowledging our Veterans and the service(s) they provide to our country. Many of our soldiers have not only lost life and limb, but many returned from war with unseen battle scars and wounds, PTSD is one that is not visable to us, but is difficult for those dealing with it. All of our Veterans deserve the utmost respect from each and every one of us across this country. When you hear our National Anthem, remember those great heroes and honor them with grace and dignity.
    From A Proud Army Mother,

    Mr. Wallace,
Thank you for a very timely tribute! It gives me great pleasure everyday to live and exemplify the leadership instilled in me during my 21 years in the United States Army. It is awesome to be a part of an organization that allows me to lead everyday with the privilege of knowing that I stand on the shoulders of so many great men and woman that have served and are still serving our great nation.

    Thank you Mr. Wallace–

Thank you Mr. Wallace for acknowledging my brother and sister veterans on this special day. Many of us joined at a tender young age and were raised in uniform. Some served a few years while others made it a career. Some never returned home.

    Let us never forget.
“Over one hundred years ago the world celebrated peace as a universal principle. The first world war had just ended and nations mourning their dead collectively called for an end to all wars. Armistice Day was born and was designated as a day to be dedicated to the cause of world peace and to be thereafter celebrated.

As a Marine Corps Veteran I am able to challenge myself daily and overcome any obstacles. Yesterday was the Marine Corps Birthday and today is Veteran’s Day. How lucky I am to have been able to serve my country and serve at Texas Children’s Hospital.

I celebrate you today because it is Veteran’s day
But I celebrate you always because of the sacrifices that you have made and still making.
In the eyes of the world, you are a uniformed man or woman
But I see you as Human that fits into the many categories that exist.
You are a Father, Mother, Brother, Sister, Uncle, Aunt and so on.
Above all, you are a Child of the Most High God.
I appreciate you and honor you today and always
And pray for your protection on a daily basis
    Be blessed.
    Thank you for your service!

Thank you Mr. Wallace! Your message brought tears to my eyes. As a Marine Veteran, it is truly an honor to work at Texas Children’s Hospital. I might not be serving my country anymore but I love being able to serve my patients. I look forward to coming to work everyday and knowing I am still making a difference.

I thank God for my family. My Grandfather, Father, and Brother all served in the Armed Forces. I wouldn’t be where I am without them. I love them so much and will do all I can to serve them in return.
